What is Ayurveda?

Thousands of years before modern evidence based medicine provided treatment for diseases and health conditions, there existed Ayurveda is a system of medicine with historical roots in India was started by sages and integrated in general wellness, mind, body, spirit to help combat diseases and health conditions.

The modern medicine predominantly uses chemical substance to treat disease whereas Ayurveda uses plant based products such as flowers, leaves, barks, roots and minerals. Rather than merely treating an illness Ayurveda focuses on mind body connection and system of constant improvement in wellbeing during illness and also good health, especially geared to preserve health and youth, vitality and spirituality and finally your freedom from illness.

Ayurveda therapies have varied and evolved over more than thousands of years. It was tested by generations of men and women and handed over to their sons and daughters. Ayurveda has sustained over hundreds of generation because is effective. Therapies are typically based on complex herbal compounds and minerals.

Although laboratory experiments are lacking; the effectiveness and safety is established by use inside families and communities over generations.

At this time laboratory testing and clinical trials are underway in India to prove efficacy and safety.

Ayurveda is nothing to do with religion. Ayurveda developed throughout human evolution in India through Vedic and non-Vedic periods. Religions such as Buddhism and Jainism may have grown the Ayurveda further. In recent decade a dedicated ministry of AYUSH under government of India has modernized and developed Ayurveda to international fame.
